Eye Donation - A Good Sign of Virtue

There is no bigger a good deed than to donate your eyes for the needy in this world, which can be done after our death. You can help the needy by donating your eyes after death which will be widely appreciated. So let’s take a pledge to help someone see this beautiful world with one of the most important organs of our body, i.e. our eyes.

Information about Eye Donation

You can donate your eyes by willing to do so by informing us prior to your death. You only need to fill a simple eye donation form for this. Even if you don’t fill the form and let your relatives know about your willingness to donate your eyes, you can do so. Once your relatives inform us about the donation, our team of doctors/eye specialist visit your place and take out the entire eye from the deceased’s body. This entire procedure takes about 20 to 30 minutes. We also take care that the deceased’s body is not harmed in any way during this procedure. The eye donation procedure needs to be completed within 4 to 6 hours after death.

Misconceptions about Eye Donation

There are many misconceptions about eye donation among people even today. many people believe that after the eye is transplanted to a needy person, he/she sees the same things that the deceased saw prior to his/her death. However, it’s not at all true. During eye transplantation, only the cornea of the deceased’s person is fitted into another’s person’s eye and not the entire eye. There is absolutely no charge taken for eye donation from the deceased’s family. Eye transplantation can only be done on those people whose outer cornea has been damaged due to some shock or accident or has turned white. This good cause doesn’t harm anyone’s religion or religious feelings and this cause has been defined as a noble and good cause in almost every religion. Most importantly, eye donation is not a forced action but it’s on one’s will.

Eye transplantation cannot be done if the deceased has died due to some infectional disease, however, his/her eyes can be made useful for medical research. This way the eyes are not wasted. There is no age limit for donating the eyes and people with a history of cataract, having major numbers for glasses can also opt for donating their eyes. Indian law doesn’t force any restriction on eye donation and people who had undergone cataract surgery in the past can also donate eyes easily whenever they desire, irrespective of the time of the day.
